Sensitivity Reading
Whether it’s fiction or non-fiction, long-form or short, your writing won’t reach its full potential if it offends its audience. With this service, I will use my lived experience with autism, ADHD, physical disability, mental illness and/or queerness (as appropriate) to ensure that your work avoids harmful language and stereotypes about marginalised groups.
By choosing this service, you will get:
- A thorough examination of the themes, narratives and implications of your text through the lens of one (or more) of my marginalised identities.
- A deep dive into your characterisation of individuals (real or fictional) and whether they fall into any offensive stereotypes.
- The correction of language and terminology to ensure it is respectful and consistent.
- Non-judgmental explanations alongside any corrections and suggestions to ensure you understand why the changes need to be made.
- Referrals to others in the field if your text covers discussion of marginalised identities I have no lived experience of.
